An Open Letter to Anthrax Friends and Supporters

To our Fans and everyone who has supported Anthrax and Worship Music:

It was a little more than a year ago – September 13, 2011 – that Worship Music was released, and all of us in Anthrax can’t believe how much has happened since then.

Our friends in the press gave the album great reviews, and so many writers singled it out as one of the best metal albums of the year. Our label just told us that Worship Music has just passed the 100,000 mark on albums sold. Since Worship Music’s release, we’ve played 107 concerts all over the world – in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Japan, Russia, South America, and the U.K. – we’ve gone home to New York to not only play Yankee Stadium as one of The Big Four, but had September 14 named “Anthrax Day” in The Bronx, where Charlie, Frankie and Rob grew up.

We’ve been so lucky as a band, and we know we’re able to do what we do because of you, our fans and all of our supporters in the press, at radio and retail, online, on the road, everywhere. We’ve had one of the best years of our career, and we share it all with you. So thank you for making the Anthrax’s “year of Worship Music” the best! More to come!

Three of the leading gear/technology companies for both musicians and consumers alike are partnering up with Guitar Center for an in-store appearance unlike any other. The “Metal Masters” will be making a stop at Guitar Center in Union Square (25 West 14th Street) on September 6th, a day before their sold-out clinic at the Gramercy Theatre. The signing will take place from 1:00PM – 3:00PM and will be comprised of Philip Anselmo (Pantera/Down), Kerry King (Slayer), Dave Lombardo (Slayer), Scott Ian (Anthrax), Charlie Benante (Anthrax), Frank Bello (Anthrax) and newly added masters Billy Sheehan and Gary Holt (Exodus/Slayer). There is a limit of one item signed per customer. There will be discounts on all Samson/Hartke/Zoom products and anyone who purchases one of their products will get moved to the front of the line. The Guitar Center in-store promises to be an event not to be missed.

Metal Masters 4 will take place in New York City on September 7th at The Gramercy Theatre. Doors will open at 7:00PM with the clinic starting at 8:00PM. Metal Masters 4 is bringing back some of the classic “Metal Masters” while adding a few new members to the list. As always, fans can expect some surprise appearances and unforgettable performances. Even though the show is sold out, the clinic will be broadcast live via UStream and the link will be sent out in the coming weeks so fans around the globe can experience Metal Masters 4.

If the still circulating buzz from Metal Masters 3 is any indication, Metal Masters 4 will not disappoint anyone who is lucky enough to see it. Metal Masters 3, which took place at the Key Club in Los Angeles, featured the “Metal Masters” demonstrating their personal techniques and styles used to create the music that millions bang their heads to every day. The highlight of the event came when vocalist and now returning “Metal Master” Philip Anselmo jumped onstage to perform Slayer fan-favorites “Angel Of Death” and “Raining Blood” before launching into 5 songs from the Pantera classic album, Vulgar Display Of Power. Anselmo and the “Metal Masters” comprised of David Ellefson (Megadeth), Chris Broderick (Megadeth), Kerry King (Slayer), Dave Lombardo (Slayer), Charlie Benante (Anthrax), Frank Bello (Anthrax) and Mike Portnoy (Adrenaline Mob/Flying Colors), blazed through “Mouth For War,” “A New Level,” “Walk,” “Hostile,” and “This Love.” Geezer Butler, of the legendary Black Sabbath, joined all of the “Metal Masters” on stage for the finale of “Hole In The Sky.”

NASA’s Curiosity Wakes Up to a Dose of Anthrax

They are one of the bands that helped define the “metal/thrash” genre (with Metallica, Slayer and Megadeth – The Big Four). Their music has been played at New York’s Yankee Stadium, in Moscow, Warsaw, Australia, Japan, and at Castle Donington in the UK. But now, thanks to NASA, Anthrax is the first metal band to ever have its music played on Mars.

NASA's Curiosity Wakes Up to a Dose of Anthrax“Got The Time,” from the band’s 1990 Gold-certified Persistence of Time, was one of several songs on NASA’s wake-up playlist for the Mars Rover, Curiosity, that touched down on the Red Planet August 5. “Got The Time” woke Curiosity up on Day Six, along with “Echelon” by 30 Seconds to Mars. Since Curiosity’s Mars landing, the playlist has also included The Beatles’ “Good Morning Good Morning,” the theme from “Star Wars,” and Wagner’s “The Ride of the Valkyries.”

As Anthrax’s Scott Ian put it, “Yes, there will be moshing on Mars.”

Next on Anthrax’s Planet Earth agenda is a Fall co-headline tour with Testament, with Death Angel supporting. This will be Leg Three of the Anthrax/Testament/Death Angel hat-trick, and will mark Anthrax’s first tour of Canada in support of the band’s most recent release, Worship Music, called the Metal Album of the Year by an abundance of journalists.

Added Ian, “With Testament and Death Angel before, we played sold-out shows, raging crowds and EPIC war dances, and we can’t wait to do it again, especially for our Canadian fans who have been waiting a long to time ‘worship music’ with us.”

NASA's Curiosity Wakes Up to a Dose of AnthraxSeveral new dates have been added to the thrash-fest routing, including shows in Chicago, Detroit, Hartford and Atlantic City. The complete itinerary is below.

Rob Zombie + Anthrax’s Frank Bello Among Toronto International Film Festival Draws

Hard rock fans descended upon Toronto over the weekend for the Heavy T.O. Festival, and they now have a reason now to come back in September.

Both Rob Zombie and Anthrax‘s Frank Bello are among the rockers that will be featured during the Toronto International Film Festival next month. As previously reported, Zombie will debut his ‘The Lords of Salem‘ film at the event and is expected to attend, while Anthrax’s Frank Bello makes his feature film debut in the new film ‘Greetings from Tim Buckley,’ which will screen during the festival.

Zombie wrote and directed ‘The Lords of Salem,’ and he stated about the film, “There were twenty people that everyone knows about, obviously all innocent, executed as witches in Salem. The basic premise of the film is that there was a small coven, actual witches, who were put to death secretly, and vowed one day to return to wreak havoc on Salem’s descendants.”

The film stars Patricia Quinn, Maria Conchita Alonza, Clint Howard, Dee Wallace, and Billy Drago, and the director calls it “probably the bleakest of all my films.”

Bello, who took on a supporting role in ‘Greetings From Tim Buckley,’ stated of his filmmaking experience, “I had a seven-day shooting schedule in New York, and, although I don’t speak a word of French, I had to sing a song completely in French. I love acting, and I want to do more of it, but Anthrax is and will always be my first priority.”

The Toronto International Film Festival runs Sept. 3-16.

ROCKSTARS SAY THE FUNNIEST THINGS – A Spoken Word Performance Series!
The Garage, London

Featuring Scott Ian!

Tuesday 23rd October – Duff McKagan
Sunday 4th November – Scott Ian
Sunday 25th November – Chris Jericho

Mean Fiddler in association with TKO, proudly present three evenings of spoken word performances with members of Rock Royalty in the intimate setting of one of London’s rock institutions, The Garage. Duff McKagan, Scott Ian and Chris Jericho will, for one night, be live on stage like you’ve never seen them before as part of the series debut of Rockstars Say The Funniest Things.

With a whole evening dedicated to each rocker, the series opens as it means to go on with a man who needs no introduction; Duff McKagan*. After 12 years playing bass with Guns N’ Roses, the ongoing success from his band Loaded, and reuniting with former bandmates Slash and Matt Sorum in the supergroup, Velvet Revolver, Duff certainly has some stories to regale you with. On Tuesday 23rd October, McKagan presents ‘It’s So Easy: A Punk’s Review’ words and music from the book It’s So Easy (and other lies). As well as sharing memories from his musical journey, he will be playing some acoustic tracks and let the audience delve deeper into this life with a Q&A.

*Duff asks that we put an * by his name as he hates the term “Rockstar”, he prefers “rock dude” or something similar.

For the second instalment on Sunday 4th November, RSTFT brings an exclusive UK only Spoken Word performance from Scott Ian. The thrash metal hero best known for his raging rhythm guitar with the mighty Anthrax, Ian is also renowned for his stint hosting the VH1 Rock Show and interviewing some of all time greats including Ozzy Osbourne, Megadeth, Stone Temple Pilots and Tenacious D.

On his inclusion in the line up, Scott Ian said; “This is something I’ve wanted to do for a very long time. I’ve been travelling the world in the company of and hanging out with the greatest people on the planet for 31 years and I’ve got to tales to tell.”

The third musketeer joining this motley crew is frontman for heavy metal outfit Fozzy and World Wrestling legend, Chris Jericho. Jericho is one of the greatest showmen of the modern era, and on Sunday 25th November be prepared for uncensored tales from the roads travelled as both WWE Champion and with his band. As author of worldwide best selling autobiographies, time spent acting in film and in comic theatre, his 23 year career is access all areas for one night only.

Chris commented; “I’m really stoked to do my first spoken word performance in my second home of England…home of bangers and mash, William and Kate and One Direction. Rest assured I will be discussing none of these topics, however sex, drugs and rock n roll will be addressed!! See you soon…”

Whether you’re a rock fan or wrestling junkie, RSTFT is a must for anyone who loves to escape with a good story, as these three icons take to the stage for a no holds barred account of their experiences.
